VET courses can be used to gain an alternative certificate to the VCE called the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) - click HERE for more details. Some VET courses can also be used as a VCE course.
The School Annual Report or web site will show VET offernings. Also, the myschool web site gives you the number of students who completed a VET subject at each School.
The focus of VET assessment is competency of skills, evaluated continuously by the teacher throughout the year. This is in STARK CONTRAST to VCE courses which are mostly assessed by the Year 12 Exams with the focus on RANKING the students.
Many people believe that this VET type assessment is much more useful for students and society. The stress and anxiety of exams is reduced and the students graduate with a set of useful skills.
As stated in the Curriculum page - the skills developed in VET courses are greatly UNDERVALUED.
NOTE: Some VET subjects can be externally assessed as a VCE course, if students want to go down that path.
