Accelerated learning

A number of Schools offer accelerating learning classes for students. To gain entry to these programs, the students will need to sit an aptitude test. Schools usually offer 1 or 2 classes per year level, where the accelerated students are grouped together to follow an accelerated curriculum. By the time these students finish Year 10 they have already covered two or more Year 11 Subjects and possibly a Year 12 subject, click HERE for a list of these schools in Victoria.

Note: many Victorian Schools are now allowing Year 10 students to accelerate by completing one or more Year 11 subjects, while still in Year 10 - if your child is capable, I would HIGHLY recommend this.

Often students use these accelerated Schools (the Schools DO NOT like this!) to gain access to the Select Entry Schools. These Select Entry Schools are difficult to get into and students must sit another aptitude test - in Victoria these are:

Melbourne High, The Mac. Robertson Girls' High, Suzanne Cory High School and Nossal High School. Click HERE for more details.

John Monash Science School is another Select Entry School, but it focuses on Mathematics and Science - click HERE for more details.
