Uniform

Most Schools have a uniform policy, and spend considerable staff time on policing student adherence to this. However, in my experience most staff do not want to be involved in the policing of uniform. As a result, a senior teacher, usually one of the assistant principals, spends much of their time in the policing role, giving students detentions or yard duty.

A small number of Schools are moving away from this. The idea is to create a more adult learning environment and to remove the negative interaction that occurs by the constant policing of uniform rules. Also, they do not want to waste an assistant principal's time and would rather that person spend their time in more positive interactions with students, like counselling, etc.

Examples of Schools who do not require students to wear a a uniform are:

Box Hill Senior Secondary College.
